Teletrade®'s "Property of a Gentleman" Auction Results

TELETRADE'S PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN BRINGS OUTSTANDING PRICES
CENTS GONE WILD AT TELETRADE'S NEWLY CONSOLIDATED WEST COAST OFFICES!

Teletrade's auction of the Property of a Gentleman, a Private Collection of Lincoln Cents and Peace Dollar, most of which have been off the market for up to a decade, went off to a tremendous reception October 22, 2003. The collection of virtually complete Lincoln Cents and Peace Dollars had been lovingly assembled for the past decade, and the collector himself personally chose each coin, and chose to deaccession these coins as he wanted to move on to other collecting areas in numismatics.

The 432 lot collection, which had been conservatively estimated to bring $100,000-120,000, more than doubled expectations, realizing an astonishing $272,724, inclusive of the 10% buyer's fee. Many coins were among the finest known examples, with much of the collection graded by PCGS, NGC and ANACS in older holders. Hundreds of collectors and dealers avidly bid the sale up online to nearly historic levels.

Among individual highlights included the following lots:

  • Lot 1006, a 1909 VDB NGC PF65RB Cent, $7,920 (est. $5,000)
  • Lot 1010, a 1909S VDB PCGS 65RD Cent, $6,600 (est. $1,500)
  • Lot 1021, 1912S PCGS MS66RB Cent, $4,510 (est. $1,200)
  • Lot 1038, 1916D NGC MS65 RD Cent, $4,730 (est. $800)
  • Lot 1042, 1917 PCGS MS66RD Cent, $4,950 (est. $1,800)
  • Lot 1043 is one of the highlights of this auction, a 1917D PCGS MS66RD Cent, which estimated at under $2,000, realized an astounding $11,550.
  • Lot 1049, a 1919 PCGS MS68RD Cent, among the finest known, brought $8,360 (est. $1,600)
  • Lot 1081, a 1927S PCGS MS65RD Cent, is the highest price in the auction, realizing $14,300 (est. $2,400)
