Bullion $5 Gold
The $5 bullion gold American eagle contains exactly one-tenth ounce of pure gold, mixing an alloy of 91.67% gold, 3% silver and 5.33% copper with a weight of 3.393 grams. First struck in 1986, the denomination as been coined every year since and until 1991 used a Roman numeral date. The obverse depicts the magnificent striding Liberty motif, conceived by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which many consider be one of the world's most beautiful coinage designs. Proofs were first offered by the Mint being in 1987. This coin represents the first use of the $25 denomination on United States coinage. However, the value of the gold content far exceeds the coin's face value.
