S$1 1921 PR 65 PCGS Morgan Zerbe Dies
Nicely balanced blue-violet and sunset toning highlight this historic Zerbe Proof Morgan dollar. Mildly reflective surfaces are pristine. The obverse is sharply struck, while the reverse exhibits a trace of softness at the eagle's breast and the lower leaves of the wreath, right of the ribbon bow. No handling or unsightly marks mar the attractive appearance of this controversial Proof emission. The quantity of Zerbe Proofs struck is not known, but it has been suggested that perhaps as many as 200 examples were coined. Today, PCGS and NGC combined have certified a total of only around 103 pieces, with most falling into the lower level certified grades. Just 14 coins have been PCGS certified as PR65; seven finer by a single point. This example would be very difficult to improve upon.PCGS# 7341.
