Silver Dollar 1895 Proof NGC 40
Warm gray surfaces with signs of circulation as a business strike. Philadelphia Mint records reflect 12,000 business coins were minted for general circulation, but none have been found. Therefore, it is assumed that the entire mintage strikes was affected by the Pittman Act of 1918, wherein millions of Morgan dollars then held in Treasury vaults were melted. It is an accepted fact that the only 1895-P Morgan Dollars available to today's collectors are survivors of the year's 880 coins of Proof delivery. These specimens, therefore, are in uncommonly strong demand, with the added collector pressure coming from numismatists who are assembling date and mint sets of this series.
