$10 1799 Genuine PCGS Large Stars Obverse
This coin has been encapsulated as Genuine by PCGS. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. There were 37,449 coins minted for this date. While far from the rarest issue in the Capped Bust Right Eagle series of 1795-1804, the 1799 is anything but common in an absolute sense, either. As with all early U.S. gold, the 1799 (37,449 pieces produced) has an extremely low survivability rate. Furthermore, those coins that are extant are under extreme type collector pressure as representatives of the Large (or Heraldic) Eagle variant of our nation's first Ten-Dollar gold design.
