Glenna Goodacre, designer of the obverse of the Sacagawea dollar, was paid her commission of $5, 000 with specially minted Sacagawea Dollars. They were delivered to her at Santa Fe, New Mexico in April of 2000 by Mint Director Phil Diehl, several other Mint personnel and two Mint guards. Goodacre had 3, 439 of the dollars certified by ICG. Numbers 2003 to 4999 were sold to the public. Of that amount some have been resubmitted to other certification services. PCGS has certified a total of 752 Goodacre Presentation Dollars. The remaining numbered coins were retained by Goodacre. What makes the Sacagawea dollars given different from the ones found in circulation is that they were burnished, giving them a proof-like appearance.
